SUSTAIN-CARE HAITI INITIATIVE
The objectives of SustainCare Haiti are to:
- Provide sustainable healthcare, particularly wound and post-amputation care including rehabilitation services to Haitian earthquake victims.
- Develop sustainable health clinic / field hospital facilities for subsequent care and clinical services for diabetic, hypertensive and chronic diseases affecting the Haitian population.
- Establish patient identification and documentation for continuity of care and provider follow-up.
- Provide prosthetic devices and ambulatory aides in developing rehabilitation programs and services.
Short Term
- Provide basic support for crisis medical management
- Provide medical services and training where care has not been rendered.
- Identify an urban area / village to establish medical and clinical / field hospital operations.
- Determine logistical and operational needs to establish and maintain services in Haiti.
Long Term
- Implement coordinated wound care and rehab services to prevent further infections and complications.
- Reduce the high volume of amputations and fatal medical consequences resulting from lack of follow-up care.
- Reduce the incidence of complications associated with trauma and infections for Haitians with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and peripheral artery disease.
- Provide social and logistical services to establish a sense of normalcy.
